About DGIT

 

The Directorate General of Information Technology, previously known as the Computer Department, was established in (2005) and consists of 4 departments, each with their sections. The four departments are; Maintenance and Support, Health Systems Applications, Database, Networks and Communication.

 

The Maintenance and Support department provides the following services:

            - Maintenance and technical support.

            - Implementation and technical support.

            - Technical training.

            - Equipment maintenance.

            - Computers and equipment registration.

 

The Health Systems Applications department handles the in-house designing, development, implementation, and maintenance of the health information system, known as Al-Shifa, which is a health information management system installed at almost all health institutions of all levels (Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary). The department carries out the above in all the regions of the sultanate. Additionally, the department presents its services to other governmental and non governmental organizations outside the ministry of health.

 

Duties and services of the database department include, but are not limited to, standardization of master databases for usage in the health information system, implementation of data warehousing and business intelligence tools, research and implementation of a central repository for health information, and monitoring of software license usage across the organization.

 

The department of networks and communication plans, designs, and manages the IT infrastructure for the ministry and its peripheral establishments. In addition, the department of networks and communication establishes standards and guidelines of internet lines and network security. Furthermore, acquisition, operation and support of servers and operating systems (OS), and OS version control are also functions of the department.
