Nursing Licensing Examination

The Ministry of Health and Private Clinic Examinations for Nursing and Midwifery profession are held at the Oman Nursing Institute, Al-Wattaya once every month (see schedule for 2005 and 2006)

Entry Requirement for Applicants

· Graduated and trained from a recognized nursing institution

· Experience of not less than 3 years.

· Be in active service. No applicant will be accepted if he/she has not been in active service for more than 6 months. Applicants should produce three (3) reference letters.

· Should be physically and mentally fit.

· Should have current continuing education record.

Application Procedure

q All applications duly filled-in are to be submitted with two (2) passport size photographs. The application form is available at the Directorate of Nursing Affairs, MOH, HQ and the Directorate of Private Health Establishments, DGHS, Darseit.

q All certificates should be attested before the candidate is employed.

q Candidates must be available in Oman at the time of interview.

q Candidates must apply at least 30 days prior to the examination date by completing the Application Form.

q Approved applicants by the Committee should pay Omani Riyals 20/= to the Finance Department, MOH, HQ.

q Approved applicants will be intimated by postal call letter and / or SMS.

Examination Rules

q Application will be rejected if the candidate does not meet the entry criteria.

q Application will be rejected if the female candidate is found to be PREGNANT.

q Application will be withdrawn if the candidate is found to have forged any certificate and / or document.

q Re-sit examination is subject to approval of the Committee.

q Examination questions are multiple choice/comprehensive and cover all major areas of nursing.

Process of Applications for Private Clinic Candidates

q All applications are to be submitted to the Directorate of Private Establishment with 2 photographs.

q Date for examination will be scheduled with the issuance of call letters / SMS text message.

q All certificates should be attested before a candidate receives his/her license for practice.

License for Practice of Private Clinic Candidates

q License will be renewed every 3 years.

q A practicing nurse / midwife should have an up-to date C.P.R certificate.

Time of Examination

The examination time is 2 Pm. Candidates should report ½ hour before this time.

Written examination will be for 45 minutes followed by interview for successful candidates.

RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE SAME DAY.

Pass Mark for the examination

The pass mark for the examination is 50% and above (fifty percent).

Re-sit the examination

Only those who scored between 40% to 49% will be allowed to re-sit the examination. The total number for attempts is limited to three (3) for all candidates.

Oman Nursing Institute, Al Wattayah (opposite to Khoula Hospital).
