MOH Educational Programmes

Ministry of Health Purpose Statement

The general purpose of the educational institutes operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Health is to prepare professional practitioners in nursing and allied health sciences disciplines in support of National Health Policy.

As the Sultanate is expanding its comprehensive health care system, both quantitatively and qualitatively, there is an increasing health care need that demands well-trained health professionals. In order to respond to this need the Ministry of Health's education programmes are designed to meet the health care needs of the country at international standards. Nursing and all allied health disciplines, in addition to their respective curricula requirements, focus special attention on the forces of culture, family, community and health care system which influence individuals and groups in their attempts to maintain health.

The Role of English

English is the language of all instruction at the MOH institutes. Students receive support classes in English-as-a-Foreign-Language, including an eighteen-hour-a-week intensive course their first semester, with fewer hours being offered in following semesters.

The English curriculum is a blend of general language skills development and English-for-Specific-Purposes (ESP).

Qualifications students earn from their study

The MOH's basic nursing program is equivalent to an Associate's Degree in Nursing from the United States. Each year some of our graduates travel to the U.S. for further education.
