The National Committee for Narcotics & Psychotropic Substance in collaboration with the Ministry of Health organized on Wednesday a workshop on the implementation of Opioid substitution therapy (OST) that prevents drug addiction risks at the Crown Plaza Hotel. The workshop is part of the Ministry and Committee’s efforts with World Health Organization to develop a treatment for addiction that would reduce the likelihood of relapsing and improve the stability of the patients’ life.
According to Dr. Mahmood Al Abri, the Committee’s rapporteur and its Executive Office’s Supervisor, the National Committee for Narcotics & Psychotropic Substance has adopted the notion of setting a comprehensive-strategic plan that covers essential approaches related to demand and harm reduction. Dr. Al Abri had also affirmed the importance of the joint efforts in fighting Narcotics.
It is worth to mention that drug addicts are currently treated in Al Masarra Hospital that offers Psychiatry and addiction services. In addition, Recovery Houses Center was opened this year in which it provides various rehabilitation programs.
