The Ministry of Health represented by the Nutrition Department organized today (Tuesday) a training workshop on Evidence-based Legislative Interventions to improve Dietary Intake in Oman. The workshop witnessed the participation of about 15 Dieticians from different government institutions in the Sultanate.

The workshop, conducted by Dr Ayoub Al Jawaldeh, WHO’s Regional Advisor on Nutrition in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, aimed at reviewing the policies, rules, and standards that regulate the intake of salt, sugar, saturated and unsaturated fats existed in the high-consumption food in the Sultanate such as beard, cheese, soft drinks, and juices. It further reviewed the current situation for the scarcity of Micronutrients. In addition, it identified gaps in the current legislatives and standards in order to recommend proper amendments to enhance future procedures for the related policies and accelerate them.
