18th Oman International Dental Conference Concludes


The 18th  Omani International Dental Conference which was inaugurated recently by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health at the Grand Hayyat Hotel, has concluded. The conference was organized by the Oman Dental Society in collaboration with the Medical Services of the Armed Forces and the Royal Oman Police (ROP), under the theme ’towards shaping the future of Dental Profession’’.  At the opening ceremony, H.E. Dr. Al Saidi in his remarks pointed out that the dental and oral health is fundamental to the Sultanate’s health system and that spreading awareness on it is essential.

The two-day conference witnessed the participation of more than 400 doctors and specialists from the Sultanate and abroad, where more than 50 speakers from sixteen countries presented lectures.

The conference concluded with significant recommendations, one of which was stressing the need of government and private entities’ role in the professional development of the Oral Surgeon Assistants in its different specializations. The conference further stressed on keeping updated with the latest code of professional ethics and the relevant rules while practicing dental profession. It also recommended reintroducing the management methods of jaws and teeth fractures to achieve better results, and the necessity of redefining the concept of dental assistant. In addition, the conference put an emphasis on the importance of increasing the interaction among the different personnel to enrich research experiences.

The scientific sessions of the conference highlighted the latest techniques and research related to oral and dental health in its different disciplines such as Pediatric dentistry, maxillofacial surgery, Endodontics, and Primary and conservative dentistry. They asserted the principle of the dental and oral primary health care. Furthermore, the sessions introduced the participants to the code of professional ethics in dental treatments, the medical imaging controls, and the use of CAD/CAM in diagnosis and treatment.

Furthermore, an International Exhibition was accompanying the scientific conference. This exclusively dental exhibition displayed the latest technology related to the various fields of dentistry by more than thirty local and international companies.
