Within the visit of the United Nations Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) to the Sultanate, number of meetings were held yesterday ( Monday) at the Grand Hyatt Hotel between the UNIATF and Omani high-officials and stakeholders from the Private sector and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
The first meeting was held with the National NCD Committee Members with the presence of H.E. Dr. Ali Talib Al Hanai, MOH’s Undersecretary of Planning Affairs and Committee Chairman, and H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Hosani, MOH’s Undersecretary of Health Affairs. The meeting outlined the mission’s objectives and intended outcomes. Regarding implementing various action plans, the discussions between both sides stressed on important issues and three risk factors-Inputs notably tobacco control, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diet. Furthermore, they viewed areas of joint work to stimulate NCD prevention and control activities.
In addition, the UNIATF on the Prevention and Control of NCDs met NGOs and food production stakeholders from the private sector to explore areas of collaboration to support the implementation of the multi-sectoral action plan for NCD Prevention and control.
It is worth to mention that the UNIATF visit aims at following up the implementation of the Political Declaration on NCDs issued on September 2011, where the States’ members made commitments (including the Sultanate) to tackle the risk of NCDs through multi-sectoral cooperation. It provides technical support to the Sultanate’s government to meet high- national multi-sectoral level response to NCD, in line with the WHO Global NCD Action Plan 2013–2020.
