The United Nations Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) concluded its official visit to the Sultanate that took several days. Within their visit, the UNIATF held meetings with the country’s high officials from the health sector, in addition to other officials and stakeholders from the Private sector and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
At the conclusion of the visit, the mission held an extended meeting yesterday (Tuesday) at the Ministry of Health (MOH) with the presence of H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health, and Undersecretaries. The meeting presented the mission’s outcomes and views. It further made recommendations to develop aspects of joint work regarding NCD prevention and control. Moreover, the meeting highlighted their support for the Sultanate’s strategic plans to fight against these diseases mainly in following up the implementation of the national multi-sectoral action plan on NCDs Prevention and control.
It is worth to mention that the UNIATF visit aimed to follow up the implementation of the Political Declaration on NCDs issued on September 2011, where the States’ members made commitments (including the Sultanate) to tackle the risk of NCDs through multi-sectoral cooperation. It provides technical support to the Sultanate’s government to meet high- national multi-sectoral level response to NCD, in line with the WHO Global NCD Action Plan 2013–2020.
