The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Mental Health Section at the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases in collaboration with the Department of Education and Health Awareness Programs organized today (Sunday) a national workshop on the Importance of Early Detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder at the Omani Women Association in Al-Qurum.
The workshop held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal al-Mawali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saif al-Hosni, MOH Undersecretary for Health Affairs along with H.H. Sayyida Taghreed bint Turki AL Said, members of Health Committee at Majlis A’Shura, Directors General from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Development, parents of autistic children and health educators.
Dr. Said al-Lamki, Director General of Primary Health Care pointed out in his welcoming speech to the importance of early detection of the autism spectrum. He also stressed to the necessity of coordination between the concerned authorities, as well as raising the awareness between the community members.
The workshop discussed several issues; the autism spectrum disorder in Oman, symptoms and diagnostic standards, role of the speech therapist and the importance of the awareness between the family, early intervention and available treatment methods for the autistic child.
