National Committee for Healthcare Establishments Accreditation Standards Meets

The National Committee assigned for establishing Healthcare Establishments Accreditation Standards and following up their implementations held a meeting yesterday Wednesday at the Ministry of Health’s Headquarter under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Sultan Yaarub al Busaidi, Health Affairs Advisor, Head of the committee. The committee comprises of various organizations that include MOH Health Establishments, Medical Services of Armed Forces, Royal Oman Police, and Diwan of Royal Court, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Civil Service, Oman Medical Specialties Board, and Oman Doctors Association.  

The meeting introduced the Committee’s duties and emphasized the importance of establishing an Accreditation system of Health Establishments according to the Five-Year Plan 2016-2020. It moreover explored Accreditation’s success factors and the systems applicable in other countries. The meeting highlighted the proposed Plan of Work that contains key steps including the creation of the national accreditation system overview, forming technical committee that undertakes the responsibility of issuing national standards for accrediting civil and military health institutions, and laying down accreditation standards. Furthermore, the committee’s work plan includes the selection and training of national accreditation system’s evaluators, and designing certificates for the institutions, afterwards the program of health establishment accreditation can be executed and assessed.
