Royal Hospital Organized Open Day on IBCAM

On the Occasion of the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month (IBCAM), the National Heart Center in the Royal Hospital and in collaboration with the Oman Cancer Association (OCA) organized yesterday Tuesday an open day on breast cancer at the Hospital.

The event was attended by Dr. Qasim bin Ahmed al-Salmi, Director General of Royal Hospital, Dr. Basim bin Jafar al-Bahrani, Director of National Heart Center along with number of medical staff.

The event, which came under the logo “Early Detection Saves Life”, aimed at raising the awareness of community on the importance of early detection, as well as familiarize the participants to the breast cancer in terms of its causes, symptoms, therapeutic and preventive methods.  

The open day began with a welcoming speech delivered by Dr. Jafar al-Bahrani, where he stressed that the breast cancer is one of the most common cancer types in the Sultanate and the World. He also added that number of people infected with this disease is increasing nearly 1.3 million people annually, therefore, the World Health Organization (WHO) has determined the month of October per year is the “International Breast Cancer Month”.
