The Ministry of Health (MOH) represented by the Directorate General for Disease Surveillance & Control- Communicable Diseases Department organized an event today Thursday to mark the World AIDS Day, that comes on the 1st of December every year. The celebration was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammad Saif Al Hosani, MOH Undersecretary of Health Affairs at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The theme of this year celebration ‘’stigma and discrimination in healthcare’’ highlights the significance of all healthcare providers’ collaboration in reducing the stigma and discrimination linked to HIV patients, handling them the same way they treat other patients with the right in care, treatment, and follow-up.
H.E. DR. Al Hosani pointed out in his speech to the importance of reducing HIV-related stigma and discrimination in the health-care sector, which will influence positively on achieving progress on the National AIDS Response level.
The celebration included a workshop entitled ‘HIV in Primary Care’ that aimed at strengthening the role of primary care physicians in HIV care. The workshop addressed many topics most importantly are the impact of stigma and discrimination in healthcare settings on the HIV epidemic, the HIV epidemiology, natural history, and various HIV testing models, as well as identifying the potential role for primary care physicians and recent treatments and strategies in HIV care.
