Behavioral Strategies & Skills when Dealing with Autistic Child Addressed

Laying a priority over enhancing the life quality of the Autistic children and their families and integrating them into the society, the Mental Health Section of the Ministry of Health (MOH) organized a three-day training workshop entitled ‘the behavioral strategies & skills when dealing with autistic child’. H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Busaidi, MOH Advisor for Health Affairs patronized today (Wednesday) the opening ceremony of the workshop that was held at the Holiday Hotel, Muscat.
The workshop witnessed the participation of around 150 Psychiatrists from the Sultanate’s different health establishment as well as from the Ministry of Social Development, special education teachers in the Ministry of Education, and members of Oman Autism Association and private autism centers.
The workshop aims at providing health, mental and social support for Children with Autism and their families through giving medical consultations and identifying the available health services. It moreover aims at ensuring the significance of social associations’ role in raising community awareness.
It includes several lectures presented by experts in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from May Institute-USA. Several topics shed lights on the ways to make the life of children with Autism families easier addressing mealtimes, bedtime, transitions and changes in routines. In addition, it highlighted the early diagnosis & rehabilitation services for autism& other developmental disorders. Strategies for addressing challenging behavior exhibited by individuals with Autism were also marked.
