The National Heart Center of the Royal Hospital launches a first-of-its-kind service in the Sultanate in the field of heart diseases that cause Sudden Death. The service targets patients with Arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) and sudden cardiac arrest.

This surgical catheter is performed collaboratively by the National Heart Center Medical team, anesthetists, cardio technicians, nursing staff, and under the Supervision the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute, United States of America (USA).

The therapeutic approach involves a general anesthetic where a small scar is created on the lower side of the thoracic cage and a special wire is inserted into the pericardial space to reach the area that causes irregular or rapid heartbeats in the outside wall of the heart. The procedure is observed via a 3D device.

Notably, this catheter approach contributes significantly in reducing the possibility of Sudden death and has few side effects. The patient stay in the hospital is short and can perform normal life activities better than before.
