The Ministry of Health (MOH) launched today Monday the National training workshop on the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) for children under five years of age. The training workshop was held under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Hosni, MOH’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs at the Holiday Hotel Muscat with the presence of Dr. Muna Fahad Al Said, the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Assistant Vice-chancellor for International Relations.
H.E. Dr. Al Hosni stressed in his speech on the significance of implementing and management the IMCI for children under five years of age to ensure their health and development. He further affirmed the importance of Child Health Card in following up the health and development of the child regardless of the availability of computerized system in the health establishments.
The two-day training workshop targeted number of medical cadres and academics from the College of Medicine & Health Sciences at the SQU in addition to nursing staff of the MOH’s Nursing Institutes in the Sultanate different Governorates. the workshop aims at qualifying national cadres on the management of IMC for children under five years of age strategy which has been implemented in the Sultanate since 1999 and contributed remarkably in the reduction of morbidity and mortality rates among children of that category.
The first day of the training workshop included three elaborating sessions. The First session addressed the general danger signs for children from two months up to 5 years of age, treatment and referral according to emergency triage and treatment (ETAT). The second training session highlighted the preventive and curative health programs supporting the IMCI whereas the last session focused on the standards of the electronic version of the IIntegrated Management of Childhood Illness (e-IMCI).
