Organized by the Ministry of Health (MOH), the National training workshop on the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) for children under five years of age was held today Sunday under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Sultan Y’arub Al Busaidi, MOH Advisor for Health Affairs at the College of Medicine & Health Sciences in Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).

The workshop targeted number of medical and academic staff of the College of Medicine & Health Sciences as well as MOH’s Nursing Institutes from the Sultanate different Governorates. It aimed at training the academics on the implementation of IMCI for children under five years of age in which it will reflect positively on reducing mortality rate among children and promoting their health.

Speakers of the event touched upon the teaching approach regarding the IMCI Strategy and the different modern methods followed to acquire the students with the necessary skills and knowledge for best practice each at their respective facilities.

The workshop further conducted number of lectures among them was on the danger signs for children under 5 years of age and the management process.

It should be noted that the Ministry has previously conducted two training workshops in this regard; the first targeted physicians and nurses, and the second targeted health educators of primary healthcare centers in the different Governorates.
