Sultanate to Participate in Global Patient Safety Summit
27/3/2017H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, minister of Health will lead the Sultanate delegation to the two-day Second Global Ministerial Summit on Patients Safety that will be held on Wednesday at Bonn, Germany.
The first day of the Summit will include six workshops that address several topics related to patients’ safety such as Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases in the Health establishments as well as Safety of Medication Therapy. The following day, a Ministerial Meeting will be held to discuss the Global Patient Safety 2017, health policy consequences and exchange expertise.
The Sultanate will participate in the discussion session by reviewing its experience in implementing the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Patient Safety Friendly Hospital initiative (PSFH) in which the Ministry has launched last year in (11)hospitals ; (8) of them are public hospitals and (3) are private. A team of WHO experts will visit the Sultanate this year to assess four of these hospitals.
it is noted that the Ministry of Health (MOH) lays a top priority on patients safety as it included the Promotion of patient safety and crises Management in the health establishment within the 9th Five-Plan for Health Development 2016-2020 Strategic Goals.
Remarkably, at the first meeting of the Summit, the MOH represented by His Excellency the Minister presented a proposal to dedicate a World Day for Patient safety to highlight updates in this field. The proposal received a wide acceptance and was approved to be initiated during the coming period.
