Health Minister of Oman and Iranian Counterpart Hold Talks and Sign MOU on Health Sector Collaboration

H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health held today (Wednesday) an official session of talks with H.E. Dr. Seyyed Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi, Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran and his accompanying delegation on the scope of promoting and developing cooperation between the two countries in the field of health.

H.E. Dr. Al Saidi welcomed His Excellency the guest and the accompanying delegation, wishing the two friendly countries for more progress in their relations especially in the field of health. Then, the minister explained the Sultanate’s health services progress and achievements in its different domains.

From his side, the Iranian Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education thanked the Omani side, praised the advances achieved regarding the economic and social fields, and above all on the development in the healthcare services. 

The guest minister pointed out that the two sides are looking forward for more collaboration and exchange of experiences in the fields of primary healthcare services, pharmaceutical industry, and medical education. 

During the session of talks, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MOH and the Iranian Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education was signed that included cooperation in the field of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Policies as well as promoting investment in the field of manufacturing and exporting of medicine, medical devices, and biotechnology.

The MOU further specified cooperation in the field of therapeutic services and strengthening the role of the private sector to invest in the construction of specialized health establishments, exchange of specialized medical team to perform microsurgeries and offer medical consultancies as required.

In addition, the MOU touched upon promoting cooperation in the field of research and health education through the organization of scientific conferences and lectures between the two sides. It encourages cooperation between the health training institutions, carrying out of collaborative research, and exchanging of information and expertise in the field of education systems and educational curricula.  

The MOU also included the promotion of cooperation in the field of public health and encouraging the coordination and collaboration in the different fields of primary health care, in addition to exchanging experience in preventive programs such as TB, Malaria, and AIDS control as well as the programs regarding population and family welfare.

MOH Undersecretaries as well as the health affairs’ advisor, Acting on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran Embassy in the Sultanate as well as number of top officials from the two sides attended the session of talks and the MOU signing ceremony. 

Earlier, Health Minister and the Iranian delegation paid a visit to the Royal Hospital where they were briefed on the services delivered and the modern equipment used at the National Heart Center, the National Oncology Center, and the National Diabetes & Endocrine Center.
