In conjunction with World Head & Neck Cancer Day, the Tumors Units at Al-Nahda Hospital organized yesterday (Tuesday) an awareness campaign on symptoms of neck, mouth and head tumors at Avenues Mall.

The campaign, which held under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Tagreed bint Turki AL-Said, gathered number of specialized doctors and technicians.

The event aimed to raise the awareness of the public about the symptoms of neck, mouth and head tumors, explaining its causes, the way to avoid, as well as training the public on self-examination in order to detecting theses tumors earlier so the patient can recover.

Dr. Salma al-Shaibania, senior consultant oncology surgery and head of ENT Department at Al-Nahda Hospital pointed out in her speech that the most important symptoms of these tumors are ulcers and tumors in the mouth, continuously nose bleeding especially with the elderly, tumors in the neck, hoarseness lasts more than two weeks with difficulty in swallowing or breathing.

She also reviewed that smoking and all its types are the main causes of these tumors, as well as chewing tobacco and alcohols. She added that these tumors can be avoided often by avoiding these causes.
