Sultanate to Take Part in WHO 64th Session of Regional Committee

The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Health will participate in the 64th Session of the Regional Committee for Eastern Mediterranean Region of World Health Organizati on (WHO), which will begin on Monday in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan until 12th of this month.
The official delegation is headed by H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid Al-Saidi, Minister of Health.
The meetings will discuss number of health strategic issues related to Polio eradication, Regional Health & Environment Strategy 2014 – 2019, Regional Action Plan for Implementation of Roadmap to Enhance the Global Response of Health Effects Caused by Air Pollution, Implementation of Regional Action Plan for Malaria Control 2016 – 2020, Implementation of EMRO Vaccines Action Plan 2016 – 2020, Regional Strategy for Improving Civil Registration Systems & Vital Statistics 2014 – 2019. It will also review the annual report of the Regional Director regarding the WHO works in the Eastern Mediterranean Region for the year 2016.
In addition, the meetings will review the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and implementation of the International Health Regulations 2005.
The sessions will address number of technical discussions on the regional framework of cancer prevention, treatment, and control, as well as the Global Strategy for Women & Adolescent Health 2016 – 2030.
The current session will include awarding Dr. Yasmeen Jafar, advisor at the MOH Directorate General of Primary Health Care the Dr. Ali Tawfeeq Shousha Foundation Award and scholarship in recognition for her contributions in the field of public health in the Sultanate, especially in the field of women & child health.
