The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Department of Health Education & Awareness Programs organized today (Wednesday) at Omani Women Association, AlQurum, a training workshop for the health educators and nutritionists on obesity disease. The workshop comes within the celebration of the World Obesity Day, which marks on October 11 each year, and themed: "Treat Obesity now and Avoid the Consequences Later".
The workshop was attended by Dr. Said Al-Lamki, MOH Director General of Primary Health Care and Dr. Amira Al-Raidan, Director of Health Education & Awareness Programs along with number of nutrition specialists.
It aimed at raising the awareness on obesity disease and its causes, risks, prevention ways and treatment.
At the beginning of the workshop, Dr. Al-Lamki pointed out to the role of the health educators and nutritionists in reducing and preventing the obesity disease. He also added that obesity now considered as one of the main causes of chronic diseases.
The workshop also discussed several related topics including the role of school health in obesity control, nutrition education, physical activity, behavioral therapy, as well as the smart shopping.
