The Ministry of Health (MOH) represented by the Centre of Studies & Research of the Directorate General of Planning & Studies conducted today Monday a workshop on How to Review Research Proposals under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Ali Talib Al Hanai, MOH’s Undersecretary for Planning Affairs. The workshop, held at the Institute of Health Sciences, Al Wattayah, targeted central and regional research committee members with the aim of ensuring the quality and sustainability of health research system through strengthening the national capacity to follow the internationally accepted standards in reviewing research proposals.

Local lecturers specialized in the field of health research reviewing from the MOH and the Oman Medical Specialties Board (OMSB) run the workshop that was attended by about 80 participants representing the Central and Regional Committees, in addition to the Directorate General for Human Resources Development of the Health Institutes, Royal Hospital, and Khoulah hospital.

The two-day workshop addressed the MOH Research Proposal Guideline and provided tips for a comprehensive proposal review. Furthermore, by exposing to different strategies used in the evaluation of different study designs, the participants therefore will acquired the needed skills to critique/ appraise research proposals. Moreover, the workshop covered the statistical and ethical concepts involved in research proposal reviewing.

During the two day work, the participants will be familiarized with reviewing research proposals through the Ministry of Health-Centre of Studies and Research (MoH-CSR) online research proposal submission module and MoH-CSR research proposal forms, by providing simulated reviewing experience through the online module.
