Royal Hospital Organizes Symposium on Medical Libraries

The Royal Hospital organized today (Sunday) at the main conferences hall a symposium on Trends of Information Culture & Knowledge Exchange of Health Staff and Librarians Role.

The two-day symposium gathers 70 participants from medical libraries of various health institutions in the Sultanate.

Asia Al-Tobi, Head of Medical Library of the Royal Hospital pointed out that the symposium aims at developing a roadmap and strategies in order to achieve further cooperation between the health professionals and health information technicians, addressing the challenges faced by the health institutions in the field of medical continuing education, as well as highlighting the role of the electronic databases in enhancing the health care system.

Dr. Saif Al-Jabri, Director of Information Center at Sultan Qaboos University stressed that this symposium is an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation ways and exchange experiences in the field of medical libraries, as it attracts several international companies specializing in medical databases such as EBSCO, Tech Knowledge, WILEY and ELSEVIER.

The symposium highlights several issues; role of social media, modern research & publishing methods in the field of medical education, effects of medical information in making the clinical decisions, the importance of efficiency and accuracy of health information, as well as training the participants on using the search engine for electronic databases in medical field.
