The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health organized today Wednesday Medical Disability Assessment workshop under the patronage of H.E. Abdullah bin Salim Al-Salmi, Executive President of Capital Market Authority (CMA) in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al-Hosni, MOH Undersecretary for Health Affairs.
The workshop held at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and gathered the members of the medical committees in the governorates.
The two-day workshop aims at improving work and raising the performance efficiency of the committees by launching guide of the medical committees related to report the medical fitness of work performance prepared by MOH experts, technicians, administrators and jurists.
It also aims at familiarizing the committees' members of their duties and specialties and trains them on the mechanisms of disability assessment and medical fitness followed globally in line with the requirements of the situation in the Sultanate.
The workshop also discussed the most important obstacles and challenges facing the committees.
Dr. Saif Al-Abri, Director General of Diseases Surveillance & Control pointed out in his speech that providing a secure workplace, raising the level of prevention methods and enacting legislation and laws lead to reducing occupational injuries and diseases and protecting workers from accidents and thus reduces the work hours lost due to absence as a result of illness or injury, as well as minimizing the cost of treatment, rehabilitation and compensation for diseases and injuries which will positively reflect on improving and increasing the economic power of the sultanate.
The workshop included number of presentations on compensation from the point of view of judiciary, challenges facing compensations in the insurance companies, work mechanism of the Social Insurance Committee to assess the disability and the way of calculating the compensations for the injured in the courts, as well as the role of the judiciary.
It also discussed scenarios of medical conditions and injuries, identifying the medical disability concept.
