First Ministry of Health Leadership and Decision Making Forum
13/12/2017The First Leadership and Decision Making Forum was inaugurated yesterday Tuesday under the auspices of H.H. Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture at the Sheraton Oman Hotel. The forum, organized by the Ministry of Health (MOH), was opened in the presence of their Highnesses, Excellencies, and Undersecretaries.
The inaugural speech, delivered by Dr. Majed Al Muqbali, Director General of Nursing Affairs and Head of the Forum’s Scientific Committee, marked the LDM++ concept. Dr. Al Muqbali touched upon the beginning of MOH LDM project that was adopted since 2012 as well as the vision it carries as a platform for all healthcare providers who are interested in the field of leadership and decision-making. He elaborated on the time schedule of the LDM that started with the conduction of a research study that resulted in the identification of 36 competencies. This was followed by launching of a book on leadership and decision making training manual. The journey of the project continues with the launching of this forum in order to realize its objectives. Afterwards, the project has to establish its own identity which was found in NETAG as the theme.
The opening ceremony further included a keynote address by H.E. Dr. Darwish Saif Al Maharbi, MOH’s Undersecretary for Administrative & Financial Affairs highlighting leadership requirement, processes, the institutional organization, and leadership gaps. H.E. Dr. Al Maharbi included that in order to endeavor change and produce desired results, an organization should strive to move away from the ‘’mindset’ to the utilization of ‘sets of minds’.
Later, the patron of the event launched the accompanying exhibition that included thirty scientific posters on the theme.
More than 300 healthcare professionals from the Ministry of Health who are interested in leadership and decision making in healthcare take part in this forum.
The forum discussed and reviewed five domains, wherein 18 working papers were presented by local and international professionals. The five domains shed light on Managing and focusing on people, Driving results, Building relationships, Culturally congruent practice, and Occupational knowledge.
Within the forum and adding to MOH achievements, it was announced that the Ministry of Health (MOH) has been awarded the International Diamond Prize for Excellence Quality 2017, which is run by the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR).
