Health Institutions Accreditation Committee Meets
28/12/2017The Committee of the Health Institutions Accreditation met today Thursday at the Ministry of Health (MOH) presided by H.E. Dr. Sultan bin Yarub Al-Busaidi, MOH Advisor for Health Affairs.
The Committee was formed by the Ministerial Decision No. 139/ 2016 and includes representatives from the Ministry of Health, military and civil authorities including the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the Armed Forces Medical Services, Royal Oman Police and Diwan of the Royal Court. In addition to a number of ministries that have an experiences in the field of quality assurance and standards such as the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Civil Services.
Dr. Nassir Al-Salmani, Reporter of the Committee and Director of the Accreditation & Standards Development at the Quality Assurance Center made a presentation on the first package of the Standards of Oman Accreditation System (11 standards on patient safety) that will be later used as a model for training and work for the groups that will be later formed.
During the meeting, the first package of the standards (11 standards on patient safety) was approved, as well as selection number of hospitals from all authorities providing health services in the Sultanate for applying the first package empirically.
It is worth mentioning that a working group has been formed to formulate the patient safety standards in order to be a prototype to train the other groups in formulating the other standards.
