Two new linear accelerators, TrueBeam, launched today Thursday at the Tumors Center in the Royal Hospital under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Adham bin Turki bin Mahmood AL-Said in the presence of H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Saidi, Minister of Health.

The new linear accelerators, which manufactured by the American company Varian, are one of the most advanced accelerators in the World. They has a high-speed and accuracy radiation.

The chief guest and the audience briefed on the most important components and functions of the devices.

This device combined three techniques; 2D imaging, 3D imaging, x-ray cross-sections, as well as the technique of monitoring tumors during treatment.

In addition, the new accelerators are equipped with a six-axis robotic bed and can take four-dimensional CT scan, which used to locate and monitor the tumors with breathing movement.

The new accelerators will reduce the duration of treatment that usually takes 10 to 30 minutes, to less than two-minute. This, as a result, will enhance the patients' satisfaction, as well as will increase the capacity of the Center.

Dr. Al-Saidi pointed out that these devices are a qualitative addition to the Tumors Center and the Sultanate has techniques in the radiotherapy similar to the techniques in the other advanced countries.

The TrueBeam will add new therapeutic techniques to the Tumors Center such as the SRS, SBRT, IGRT, RapidArc, VMAT, as well as the existing therapeutic techniques.
