The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently celebrating with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries the GCC Nurses Day, which falls on 13th of March each year.
In coincidence with this occasion, the Directorate General of Health Services of Muscat Governorate (DGHS – Muscat) celebrated today (Thursday) the GCC Nurses Day at Muscat Holiday Inn.
The celebration held in the presence of Dr. Fatima Al-Ajmi,DGHS – Muscat Director General and participation of a number of nurses and midwifery staff in the health institutions in Muscat.
The celebration of GCC Nurses Day, which has been agreed upon by the Gulf Technical Nursing Committee, reflects the importance of nursing care in the healthcare system in GCC countries.
Aisha Al-Ghammari, Director of Nursing at theDGHS – Muscat, pointed out that the nursing profession has witnessed many developments and achievements during the past years. A number of nursing practices in the primary healthcare institutions were upgraded. In addition, Eight Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure the quality of nursing services were developed on injection, wound healing and steam therapy. As well as, a number of policies and guidelines were developed for the nursing practices
She also added that palliative care service has been introduced in the field of community health nursing and 17 nurses have been trained in this field in cooperation with the Royal Hospital.
During the celebration, a number of nurses and dressers from various health institutions in Muscat Governorate honored for their efforts.
