Khawla Celebrates Equipping Prosthetic & Orthotic Department

The Khawla Hospital celebrated recently at the Conference Hall of the Hospital the project of equipping the Prosthetic & Orthotic Department which funded by Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Company (Oman LNG) in the presence of Khalid Abdullah Al-Massan, CEO of Development Foundation at Oman LNG along with Prof. Ali Al-Mashani, Director-General of Khawla Hospital.

The total cost of the project reached R.O. 66,346. The Department has equipped with new 21 equipment and tools with international standards to manufacture the prostheses, including (12) new devices, in which used for the first time in the Department, as well as replacing (9) old devices with new ones.

Al-Mashani stressed on the important partnership between the government and private sectors for the common benefit. He also praised the Oman LNG initiative and expressed his sincere thanks for its efforts to support this project.

Prof. Ali also added that this new equipment will contribute to reinforce the Department with more effective equipment and speed up the process of manufacturing prosthetics & orthotics, as well as provide high-quality braces in a short period.

Dakiya Alnoobi, Head of the Department pointed out that the high incidence of traffic accidents and increasing the number of diabetes cases are the leading causes of amputation in the world. She added that the main goal of the prosthesis is to rehabilitate the patients and helping them to carry on their life normally.
