H.E. Dr. Ali Talib Al Hinai, Ministry of Health’s Undersecretary for Planning Affairs has been awarded recently the United Nations Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) award 2018 among seven personnel working in the Health Ministries around the globe. The award is a recognition of Dr. Al Hanai’s distinct contribution in achieving the sustainable development goals on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) prevention and control in the Sultanate.
The award was presented in the margins of the Third High-level Meeting on NCDs at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, on 27 September 2018.
At its 10th meeting in Vienna in February 2018, the UN Interagency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (UNIATF) initiated the UNIATF award to recognize those making an outstanding contribution to NCD prevention and control. The award includes individuals and organizations from Ministries of Health, Ministries Outside Health, as well as United Nations Country Teams
It should be noted that the United Nations Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) on the Prevention and Control of NCDs was established by the UN Secretary-General in June 2013 with the purpose of joining together the UN system in managing the NCDs and mental health, and other non-communicable incidents.
The Task Force visited the Sultanate on April 2016 and met the Cabinet of Ministers, Council of State, Ashura Council, and the relevant NCDs public and private sectors.
This achievement constitutes an important addition to the Sultanate’s global milestones in various domains both at institutional and individual level.
