Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahad bin Mahmoud AL-Said, Assistant Secretary-General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, the Hematology & Oncology Department at the National Oncology Centers in the Royal Hospital organized today (Sunday) an open day on the occasion of the Children Cancerous Tumors Awareness Month.

The event held at the main conference ballroom in the Hospital in the presence of H.E. Dr. Sultan bin Yarub Al-Busaidi, Advisor of Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, Dr. Qasim Al-Salimi, Director General of Royal Hospital, Dr. Basim Al-Bahrani, Director of National Oncology Center along with medical cadres, administrators and community members.

The open day highlighted the cancerous tumors in children in terms of the causes, symptoms and prevention methods. It also aimed at raising the awareness among the participants on the importance of early detection of tumors in promoting the chances of recovery. In addition to familiarizing the community members on the importance of physical activity and healthy eating habits.

Aisha Al-Habsi, head of nursing at the Pediatric Oncology Department of the National Center pointed out in her welcoming speech that the World Health Organization (WHO) allocated the Children Cancerous Tumors Awareness Month in September every year. Therefore, the international communities in various countries organize many related awareness events in order to raise the level of awareness on different cancerous tumors that are common in children.  

His Highness Sayyid Kamil inaugurated the exhibition, which included educational leaflets and publications related to cancerous tumors in children, providing awareness advice and information to the participants, as well as overviewing the talents of children with cancers.

After that, the chief guest toured the Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Department, where he visited all the sick children and briefed on the healthcare services provided in the Department.
