The 4th Arab Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (ASPED) Conference began today (Thursday) at Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al-Hosni, Undersecretary of Ministry of Health for Health affairs.

The Conference, which organized by the Royal Hospital, represented by the  National Diabetes & Endocrine Center is targeting the  Paediatric Endocrinologists, Adult Endocrinologist interested in adolescent and young people endocrinology, Paediatricians with a special interest in Endocrinology & Diabetes, Diabetologists, Paediatric Endocrinologists in training, Specialist endocrine nurses and diabetes educators, Clinical dieticians, Psychologists.  

The three-day Conference aims to share the experience, promote education, research and update the medical practice which will benefit the children and adolescents with endocrinology diseases and diabetes in the Arab Region. It also addresses the updates on research development and the use of technology in diabetes, as well as highlights the special features of endocrinology and diabetes in the region.

The Conference is a learning platform for healthcare professionals as providing them with the opportunity to interact with the regional and international experts.

A number of health topics will be covered during the conference including the therapeutic potential and challenges in diabetes treatment, insulin resistance and diabetes type 2 in children, monogenic obesity in children, autoimmune disorders in diabetes, medical vs. surgical intervention of obesity in children and adolescent. Furthermore, overgrowth syndromes in children and adults, thyroid nodule in children and challenges in the management of diabetes in adolescents.
