The Ministry of Health (MOH) represented by the Department of Rational Use of Medicine in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) organized on (Tuesday) a workshop on the Scientific-Based Evaluation for Adoption and Cancellation of Drug within the Policy of the Higher Technical Committee of the Drug. The workshop was commenced under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Hosni, MOH’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs and the Committee’s Chairman at the National Heart Center.

More than 60 members took part in the workshop from the Committee, along with the Heads and rapporteurs of Drug Committees and Treatment in the Sultanate’s hospitals.

Health Affairs Undersecretary delivered a speech where he touched upon the efforts of the Ministry exerted in the selection and provision of the medications in light of the remarkable expansion achieved in the specialized health services that required confirmation of the drug effectiveness and security.

His Excellency affirmed the ongoing work of the Ministry to keeping pace with all the modern drugs needed by the patient as per health condition taking into consideration the best use of the available financial resources; thus obtaining positive results on patient health that commensurate as well with the expenses, bearing in mind the minimization of medication side effects.

The workshop aimed at presenting the current policy followed by the Committee in improving the process of the adopting and cancelling of new medications based on the globally- adopted mechanisms, policies, and scientific principles.

Moreover, the workshop introduced some of the policies followed by some of the regional and global countries in the process of drug adoption, in addition to addressing the various methods used on the provision of the drugs.
