The Directorate General of Pharmaceutical Affairs & Drug Control (DGPADC) of the Ministry of Health (MOH), in cooperation with the Intellectual Property Department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry organized today (Tuesday) a workshop on the Pharmaceutical Products Patents at Al-Bahja Ballroom in Al-Qurum.

Members of Technical Committee for Registration of Pharmaceutical Companies & their Products along with number of pharmacists, pharmaceutical registration staff in the DGPADC, officials of purchasing medicines and medical requirement and specialists working in the local pharmaceutical factories attended the workshop. 

The event aimed at familiarizes the participants with the intellectual property rights and the methods of registering the patents of pharmaceutical products under the intellectual property conventions.

Number of specialists from the Ministry of Health and the Intellectual Property Department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry lectured during the workshop.

The workshop reviewed the concept of the intellectual property, the patents applications and systems and the protection exceptions as a patent in the Industrial Property Rights Law in Oman.   

The workshop also highlighted the conditions of granting the patents, the relation between the international conventions and the Omani Patent Law in the field of health and pharmaceutical products, the compulsory licenses for pharmaceuticals, protection against unfair competition…etc.
