Health Affairs Advisor Receives European Stroke Angels Initiative Delegation

27/1/2019

H.E. Dr. Sultan Ya’rub Al Busaidi, Ministry of Health’s Advisor for Health Affairs received today (Sunday) at his office members of the European delegation from Angels Initiative for Stroke, currently visiting the Sultanate.

The meeting exchanged cordial conversations and reviewed means of cooperation in the field of stroke.

Moreover, the European delegation addressed the aim of their visit and objectives of the Initiative, in addition to the outcomes of the workshops they conducted in number of the Sultanate’s hospitals.

The European delegation from Stroke Angels Initiative in collaboration with the MOH has conducted last week simulation workshops to the stroke teams at the Stroke Unites in Khoula, Nizwa and Sohar Hospitals.

Dr. Amal Al-Hashmiah, Senior Consultant of Neurosurgery and Head of Central Stroke Unit at Khoula hospital pointed out that the initiative is functioning under the supervision of the European Stroke Organization (ESO) and the World Stroke Organization (WSO). The Initiative includes stroke specialists from Germany, France, Boland, UK, Italy, Spain, Russia, Check and Ukraine.

Dr. Al Hashimiah added that the Sultanate is the third country to be selected outside Europe in this initiative, which reinforces the past six-year achievements accomplished in the field of stroke and various treatments.

It should be noted that the first Stroke Unit in the Sultanate was established in 2013 at the Royal Hospital and was then shifted after three years to operate in Khoula hospital. Moreover, Oman launched the National Stroke Guidelines in the same year with the cooperation of the British Royal College, London.
