Health Minister Inaugurates 9th Pharmaceutical Care Conference4/2/2019
The 9th Pharmaceutical Care Conference, which organized by the Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Directorate General of Medical Supplies (DGMS) inaugurated today (Monday) under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Saidi, Minister of Health at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Center.
Number of MOH Undersecretaries and senior officials along with medical cadres and pharmacist attended the opening ceremony.
The three-day Conference comes under the theme "Towards Professional Excellence in Pharmacy Practice", which was chosen to keep abreast of all new and emerging pharmaceutical practices in order to enhance the universal healthcare.
About 1000 pharmacists, physicians, nurses, assistant pharmacists from various MOH health institutions along with participants from the GCC countries and worldwide are expected to attend the Conference.
The Conference aims at enhancing the scientific researches and the creativity and innovation in the pharmacy field, exchanging experiences between the participants, building a generation of researchers to improve the pharmacy profession, identifying the opportunities and challenges. Furthermore, it aims to promote pharmaceutical practices, activating the role of the pharmacist to suit his/her responsibilities as one of the medical team members and the responsible of the safety of pharmacotherapy.
Ph. Nusaiba Habib bin Mohammed, DGMS Director General and Chairperson of the Conference pointed out in her welcoming speech that the biologic medicines became the most important choices of treatment for several chronic diseases, but at the same time, they have posed a major challenge to the health systems. As a result, in 2010, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has adopted the biosimilars to achieve the competition between the companies, where the Biosimilars have a vital role in improving modern healthcare. She also added that, within this framework, the Conference includes a special aspect titled "biosimilars" in order to highlight the international experiences in dealing with such medicines and to adopt the scientific approach.
