The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Directorate General for Diseases Surveillance & Control (DGDSC) launched today (Tuesday) the HIV in Primary Health care Manual under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al-Hosni, MOH Undersecretary for Health Affairs at Muscat Holiday Hotel.

Dr. Seif Al-Abri, DGDSC Director General talked in his lecture about the future vision for HIV care in the Sultanate between the past, present and future.

Dr. Al-Abri also pointed out to the objectives of the health manual, which including providing the health care to patients living with HIV/ AIDS in the institutions of primary health care and private sectors, the importance of early detection for HIV/AIDS patients, providing the support, advice and medical care for the patients with chronic diseases, as well as deal with them and guide them for the treatment.

He added that the percentage of cases diagnosed with HIV/ AIDS in the Sultanate reached 90%.   

The launching ceremony followed by a workshop, which touched upon HIV care in Oman and the role of the private sector and primary health care in HIV care.
