H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Saidi, Minister of Health received in his office on Sunday Professor Dr. Omar bin Awadh bin Salim Al-Rawas, who was recently elected as the Secretary-General of Arab Board of Health Specializations.
The Minister of Health congratulated Al-Rawas for his new position as the first Omani holds this position.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged the cordial conversations and reviewed the means of bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the Arab Board of Health Specializations in the health field.
Prof. Omar bin Awadh Al-Rawas was elected to hold the position of Secretary General of Arab Board of Health Specializations by the Council of Arab Ministers of Health instead of the Libyan Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Hadi Al-Suwihili.
The Secretary-General of the Arab Board of Health Specializations is appointed by the Supreme Council of the Arab Board of Health Specializations by elections among the full membership countries' candidates for a period of five years renewable for another five years. The candidate shall be a full-time highly specialized doctor.
Beside his new position, Prof. Omar Al-Rawas is working as the Director of Medical Research Center at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the Head of Respiratory Unit at the Internal Medicine Department of the SQU Medicine & Health Sciences College, a member of Board of Trustees of the Oman Medical Specialty Board, as well as a member of Board of Trustees of Arabian Gulf University.
It is worth mentioning that, Al-Rawas previously served as the Dean of SQU Medicine & Health Sciences College, Chairman of Governing Council ofSultan Qaboos University Hospital, President of Oman Medical Association and Head of Respiratory Diseases Services Development Committee at the Ministry of Health.
