Health Minister Welcomes Twinning Initiatives in Antimicrobial Resistance Ministerial Conference

The Second Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance, where the Sultanate is participating in with a delegation headed by H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Saidi, Minister of Health is ongoing at Noordwijk in the Netherlands.

The Conference is organized and hosted by the Kingdom of Netherlands in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).

The Conference is attended by (45) participants from the ministries of health and ministries of agriculture & animal health around the world.

The Minister of Health is accompanied by specialists in antimicrobial resistance from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries.

The Conference aims to discuss results and successes of the overall implementation of the Global Action Plan (GAP) on antimicrobial resistance, the progress made by the participating countries to implement the (GAP), draw upon the experiences of these countries by establishing bilateral partnerships between the countries and twinning initiatives among various countries.

During the first day of the Conference, the Minister of Health gave a detailed explanation about the efforts made by the Sultanate to address the antimicrobial resistance problem. He also explained that the Sultanate had approved a national strategic plan, which was prepared by all relevant sectors.

He also added that a national antimicrobial resistance committee has been formed under the chair of the Undersecretary of Ministry of Health for Health Affairs and membership of two representatives from all government and academic authorities in the Sultanate. This committee is responsible for preparing the national strategy and action plan of antimicrobial resistance, as well as the follow-up framework for implementation of the strategy at the national level.

 

The Minister of Health welcomed the twinning initiative among the countries and expressing the Sultanate's readiness to share the experiences in this field with the other countries in order to achieve the GAP goals to address the problem of antimicrobial res
