National Campaign for Organ Donation to Kick Off Tomorrow

The Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Omani Association for Organ Transplantation, will launch tomorrow (Monday) the National Campaign for Organ Donation at the Grand Millennium hotel.

The event will be held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Muhammed Said Khalfan Al-Mamari, Minister of Endowment & Religious Affairs, with the presence of H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, and Sheikh Dr. Kahlan Al Kharusi, Assistant Grand Mufti of Oman, in addition to number of MOH senior officials and medical staff from various health sector institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Campaign aims at raising community awareness with the importance of organ donation being a humanitarian act and a generous initiative that is considered an appropriate solution to organic failure such as kidney failure, liver failure, and other ailments from which millions of patients suffer worldwide.

The National Campaign further aspires to saving the life of patients and ending their sufferings through organ donation procedure.

19 of December signifies the date of the first organ transmission surgery in the Sultanate of Oman and is to be commemorated annually as the Omani Organ Donation Day to remind and educate the community with the significance of organ donation and saving patients with organ failure.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Health has recently launched the Awareness Application for Body Organs Donation (Gift of Life “8”), with the aim of providing all information related to organ transplantation. The application, which is the first in the Arab world, was named to indicate that organ donation per person saves 8 lives.
