Sultanate Wins in World Health Day Competition


As part of celebrating the World Health Day (WHD) which comes on the 7th of April every year- and in coincidence with the anniversary of founding the World Health Organization(WHO), the winners in the WHD competition themed: "Primary Health Care to achieve Universal Health Coverage" honoured today (Wednesday), at the WHO headquarters in Muscat.

the Sultanate participated for the academic year 2018/2019 with about 200 art paintings drawn up by governmental and private school students of different age groups (citizens & expatriates) aiming to raise common public  awareness towards health issues and concerns.

The Sultanate won five leading ranks in the World Health Day competition in the Middle East.

Dr. Sa'ed bin Harib Al-Lamki, Director General of Primary Health Care of the Ministry of Health honoured the winners and emphasized the importance of such health competitions that enrich students' thoughts with the importance of changing lifestyle and doing exercises.

"We extremely thank the WHO for providing such competitions that contributes in raising awareness among school students especially with the prevalence of the chronic diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure and obesity. The World Health Day also gives the opportunity to all communities to participate in the activities that lead to achieve improvements to health field" he added.

The winners are Rithika Periyasami from the Indian School in Al Seeb, Manya Talati from the Indian School in Al Wadilkabeer, Namarek Abd Elsattar Alhashim from Qurum Private School, Tanisa Noor from the Bangladesh School in Muscat and lastly Ashfa Imthiyas from the Sri Lanka School.

Each year, a theme is to be selected to highlight a particular health issue which found to be a prior health fields. Continuing the last year theme "Universal Health Coverage", the slogan "Primary Health Care" was chosen to be the main topic of the 2019 year World Health Day.
