DGHS-Muscat Launches Environmental Explorer Competition29/9/2019
The Directorate General of Health Services of Muscat Governorate (DGHS), represented by the Communicable Diseases Surveillance & Control launched today (Sunday) the Environmental Explorer competition at the Educational Management building in Al-Seeb.
The launching ceremony held under the patronage of Said Majid bin Saif al-Busaidi, Deputy Wali of Seeb in the presence of Dr. Fatima bint Mohammed al-Ajmi, DGHS Director General along with the Director General of Education of Muscat Governorate.
The event gathered (60) specialists from the Directorate General of Health Services and Directorate General of Education of Muscat Governorate.
The competition aims to train school students to be environmental explorers able to explore the breeding sites of the Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes, which was discovered in the Sultanate last year and caused a number of dengue cases in al-Seeb.
The competition, which targeting 30% of students from grade four to ten, will be conducted in the schools located in North & South Al-Hail.
The competition will include community awareness-raising activities of how to behave optimally to reduce the breeding sites of the Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes, organizing interactive exhibitions, as well as involving the parent councils.
The winners will be announced at the end of the competition, which will start in October 2019 till March 2020.
It is worth to mention that this competition is the first of its kind in the Sultanate.
