The Eye Department of Al-Nahda Hospital celebrated today (Thursday) the World Vision Day , which falls the second week of October each year, under the patronage of H.H. Sayida Hujaija bint Jaifar bin Saif AL-Said along with the presence of Dr. Hamad Al-Harthy, Director of the Hospital.

The celebration aimed to highlight the visual disability and blindness in order to raise health awareness on eye health and safety for all community members. In included an awareness exhibition combining activities and events such as eye examination, measuring the eyesight and eye pressure.  

Dr. Farida Al-Bulushia, Head of the Eye Department at Al-Nahda Hospital pointed out that the annual celebration of World Vision Day comes within the World Health Organization (WHO) system that seeks to achieve the initiative of Vision 2020 – The right to Sight. The goal of the Vision 2020 Global Initiative is developing programs and plans to reduce preventable blindness before 2020.

She added that the WHO statistics showed that nearly 285 million people are visually impaired; 90% of them living in low-income countries including 1.4 million child.

Al-Bulushia urged all to the need of conducting eye examinations periodically, particularly for those who have a family history of eye diseases.
