Health Honors ‘’Accelerating Open-Heart Surgeries Campaign’’ Participants
A ceremony to celebrate the success of the “Accelerating Open-Heart Surgeries Campaign” of the Royal Hospital’s National Heart Center (NHC) was held today (Monday) at the Center’s Auditorium under the auspices of E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health, attended by Dr. Qasim Al-Salmi, Director General of Royal Hospital.
The campaign was carried out in two phases, in which a total of (41) surgeries were successfully performed in the first phase during 9-12 of September 2018 with the assistance of Australian voluntary nursing team, and (33) surgeries were operated in the second phase during 13-26 October 2019.
The campaign has achieved its intended outcomes in reducing the waiting list as within 18-months period , pediatric open-heart surgery waiting period has been reduced from 9 months to a less than 3 months, hoping for more reduction in the future. Moreover, the campaign’s success is perceived in the positive medical response and results of the surgeries as well the post-surgery rapid recovery. The campaign has reduced patient’s hospital stay therefore reducing the expenditure.
In this regard, His Excellency the Health Minister praised the involving teams and their tangible efforts made in reducing the waiting lists of heart surgeries hence improving the quality of the provided services.
The event honored all the teams involved in the campaign who made it a success including nursing cadre, pediatric surgeons, pediatricians, pediatric cardiac Intensive Care physicians, Anesthesiologists, physiotherapists, in addition to respiratory therapists, Central sterilization and pharmacy team.
