Regional Meeting Highlights Implementation of Hospital Sector Framework for Action5/11/2019
The World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Region Office (WHO-EMRO), in collaboration with the MOH’s Directorate General of Specialized Health Care convened today (Tuesday) a regional meeting to discuss with the member states’ focal points about the implementation of Framework for Action for the Hospital Sector in the EMR countries.
Health Minster H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, and the WHO Representative in the Sultanate H.E. Dr. Akjemal Magtymova attended the meeting at the Intercontinental hotel.
High-level representatives and experts from 27 member states in EMR, the United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), and Switzerland took part in this regional meeting.
The Minister of Health affirmed the significance of this regional meeting in developing the health systems in the hospitals and enhancing health workers capacities, pointing out to the many MOH and private hospitals that received international acknowledgement, not to mention the hospitals which follow global hospital systems.
Oman WHO Representative underlined the hospital services high cost and the integral role of the primary health care and hospitals in the health system. She emphasized the need for setting a framework forward developing hospitals and performance.
Following the Sixty-six session of Regional Committee Technical meetings ( RC 66) and as a pre-43rd World Health Congress, the two-day meeting is aiming at sharing experiences in the area of hospital management outside the Region, mapping the road for hospital transformation, and implementing strategic plans for hospital sector in the context of the regional framework for action. Moreover, the meeting held with the objective of identifying key regional challenges and priorities in the area of hospital care and hospital management.
The meeting highlighted and increased understanding of the strategic importance of hospitals within the health system in moving towards universal health coverage through WHO’s integrated people-centred health services framework.
