Under the theme "It's a Medical Physics world", the Royal Hospital (RH) represented by the Medical Physics Unit organized today (Thursday) an event to mark the International Day of Medical Physics, which is celebrated every year on November 7.
The celebration was held at the Royal Hospital’s National Heart Center with the presence of RH’s Director General Dr. Qasim Al Salmi, and with the participation of the hospital’s medical and administrative staff as well from other relevant stakeholders.
The day aimed at raising awareness of the medical cadre on the significance of the profession in terms of diseases treatment and highlighting the latest developments and medical studies in this field. The event further promoting the medical cadre awareness on the preventive measures applied when dealing with Radiological devices used in the radioactive experiments. It offered a platform for exchanging innovative projects that serves this profession thus promoting the role of medical physicists in the worldwide medical scene.The event focused on Radiation Protection by presenting four working papers that underlined the global Regulations concerning Radiation Protection in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiology, the biological impact of ionizing radiation, and preventive measures.Moreover, the event an exhibition contained several educational and awareness corners including nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, medical physics, and the medical physics club in SQU.
