Statement No. (4) On Novel Corona virus in China31/1/2020
Following to the statements issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH) regarding the epidemiological situation of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in China, and due to the continuing emergence of new nCoV cases in other countries and China, the World Health Organization (WHO), represented by the International Health Regulations (2005) Emergency Committee of the (2019-nCoV) outbreak announced that this outbreak is a public health emergency of international concern.
Therefore, all countries should be fully-prepared for contain this outbreak, by active surveillance, early detection, isolation and case management, contact tracing, raising community awareness and prevention of onward spread of 2019-nCoV infection.
The number of confirmed cases in China reached (9657) cases resulted in 213 deaths. In addition, (108) confirmed cases of nCoV have been reported in (21) countries, including (7) cases unrelated to travel and minor cases related to confirmed cases. It is expected that further exportation of cases may appear in any country.
The Ministry of Health confirms that no cases of 2019-nCoV cases have been recorded in the Sultanate, however, it is potential for importation of any cases. The Ministry is fully-prepared to monitoring, tackling and handling any suspected cases of nCoV. The Ministry will keep the citizens and residents informed about any updates through the its formal channels and social media.
The Ministry calls upon citizens and residents to follow advices and instructions issued either by the MOH or the WHO on the precautionary measures and infection control. It also recommends to not travel to China or the affected areas only when absolutely necessary.
