Supreme Committee Extends the lockdown of Muscat Governorate
The Supreme Committee tasked with studying scopes for a mechanism to deal with developments resulting from coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic today (Monday) took more decisions to help contain the virus spread. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Interior, was presided over by Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, Minister of Interior.
On the approaching advent of holy month of Ramadhan, the Supreme Committee greeted His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, the Omani people, the Arab world and the Islamic nation, praying to the Almighty Allah to rid the whole of mankind of coronavirus and all other diseases and evils. It wished that all humanity will enjoy good health, safety, comfort and bounty.
The Committee strongly cautioned against assembling during the holy month of Ramadhan and prohibited such gatherings, irrespective of their nature.
The Committee also stressed the continuation of closure of all mosques, except for the call for prayer, and emphasized the non-performance of any type of congregational prayers, including Taraweeh.
The Committee also prohibited all members of society from organizing any Ramadhan gatherings, like iftar meals and barbeques, at mosques or any other public places like tents and community councils.
It also banned social, sports, cultural and recreational activities.
