The Nizwa Healthy City Committee celebrated on Sunday the recognition of Nizwa as a Healthy City by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The celebration was held under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Fatma Mohammed Al-Ajmi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Health for Administrative, Financial and Planning Affairs, with the presence of Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, WHO Regional Director.
In this regard, Dr. Al-Mandhari pointed out that the Healthy Cities Program is one of the main WHO initiatives in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. He added that healthy cities achieve further health equity and reduce the impacts of environmental conditions and climate change.
Al-Mandhari stressed that healthy cities accelerate achieving health for all through promoting equitable access to high-quality healthcare services and creating an environment for adopting healthy lifestyles, ensuring healthier and more luxurious life for all age groups.
Partnership agreements between the government sectors and civil society institutions were signed during the celebration.
