15/3/2023The Ministry of Health (MOH) in cooperation with the National Committee for Narcotics & Psychotropic Substances Affairs convened today (Wednesday) training workshop on developing the addicts' treatment program at Grand Hormuz Hotel.
Conducting the training workshop came after His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq blessed the adoption of the national drug control strategy (2023 – 2028) and His directives to take the necessary measures to support the implementation of the strategy programs to reduce the drug and psychotropic substances abuse problem in the Omani society.
The two-day workshop aims to highlight the global updates in the alternative treatment program for addiction patients, as well as to raise the quality of health services provided for the addicts.
The workshop hosts international speakers from Kuwait, Greece, and Denmark and gathers (40) health workers, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, workers of recovery houses, psychologists, and social workers from Al-Masarrah Hospital and other related health institutions.
Dr. Mahmood Zahir Al-Abri, Rapporteur of the Narcotics & Psychotropic Substances Prevention Committee, pointed out that the alternative treatment program is an approved treatment program in the national drug control strategy. The program aims to reduce the percentage of relapse among the recovered patients, limit the exposure percentage to communicable diseases, stabilize the social condition of the recovered patients, and decrease drug-related crime rates in the community.
